Regional  administration

In the first half of the 18th century the residential houses were located here. With construction of the merchant’s Gostiny Dvor (rows of shops) in 1770s a future Tikhvinsk square starts to be formed. Its northern part was occupied by the house of the General-Governor, City Council and others. By the early 19th century there were practically no residential houses there. The view of the square radically changed with construction of a new cathedral in the late 19th century. The latest changes were made during the soviet period.
